A few weeks ago, my husband and I drove to the Women's Rights Historical National Park in Seneca Falls, NY, for its annual Convention Days celebrating the 1848 Woman's Rights Convention. That convention, held on July 19 and 20, is remembered as the first women's rights convention in the U.S. and is the subject of my latest book, What Charlotte Found at Seneca Falls. There I not only enjoyed meeting historian Judith Wellman, who has supported my efforts from the beginning, but met many other women who remember the past and still work overcome obstacles that women still have to overcome. I also had a chance to talk to some shop owners about my book, and one has already purchased some books to sell. Yay! Here are some pictures from that weekend. Top to bottom:

Judith Wellman and I in front of a statue depicted Amelia Blooomer introducing Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, who became a formidable team.

I am very excited to learn that my children's short story, "Three Cheers for Emilio!" has been named the 2nd Grand Prize Winner in the 2025 Next Generation Short Story Awards (NGSSA). That means the story was not only a winner in its Children’s/Juvenile Category, but also in the entire contest, which is a not-for-profit international awards program for authors of short stories. It is part of Next Generation Indie Book Awards, the largest book awards program in the world for self-published authors and independent publishers. I am even more delighted that the awards celebration is going to be in Philadelphia, which means I can go. Looking forward to it.

Here's more on my Short Story Award. My daughter and I went to the celebrartion in Philly last week and had a great time (once we made it through the incredible Friday evening traffic—thank goodness she was driving!). It was a inspiring event with so many happy award winners, and I enjoyed talking with several authors. One of them, Bev Adamo, even gave me a copy of her book, Wild & Wise Witch, which she co-authored withTerri Clifton. It's a collection of "Daily Meditations To Open Your Path" and fun to check in with every day. I'm hoping to turn my winning story, "Three Cheers for Emilio," into a picture book. Keep your fingers crossed for me! (The phote here is me with Kathy Teets, a publisher and co-chair of the event.)
